November 30–December 14, 2025 Figueira/Budens, Portugal, and visit to home country

At the beginning of the week, we walked to the beach again. The sandstorm blew sand into our ears, and after just 15 minutes on the beach, we returned to the Motorhome.

There, without the cool wind, we enjoyed the sun.

And cooked a delicious meal in the evening.

Shortly before our departure for Germany, there was some commotion in the middle of the night. A woman kept calling for the groundskeeper Antonio. A short time later, we heard cars driving around the campground, which is not actually allowed at night. It was clear that something must have happened. The next morning, we learned that this woman’s husband had died in their motorhome.
At moments like these, we become increasingly aware of how lucky we are to be able to live healthy and independent lives.

On Thursday at around 11 a.m., we headed to Faro Airport. We are going to Germany for a week because we wanted to congratulate our eldest daughter in person on her 30th birthday and give her a big hug.

In the evening, we landed in cold Memmingen and were picked up by our son and his girlfriend. Together, we did some shopping for the next few days and then they took us to my parents’ house, where we were once again allowed to stay during our visit to Germany. And as always, we were delighted to see them again.

On Friday, our youngest daughter came to visit us. We made some last-minute birthday preparations and spent the evening together after having dinner.

For the birthday party, I baked a cake and cookies that our eldest daughter likes.

To our surprise, St. Nicholas also visited us on December 6.

We had a wonderful birthday party for our eldest daughter at the weekend and really enjoyed spending time with our loved ones. Although we didn’t get to bed until just before 4:00 a.m., the time passed far too quickly.

Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our girls again, as they don’t exactly live around the corner and are currently very busy with their jobs.

Da wir im Sommer nicht dazugekommen sind, waren wir bei Iris’ Tante zum Kaffee, Kuchen und gemütlichem Beisammensein.
Und selbstverständlich besuchten wir auch Alex’ Mama.

A short walk in my hometown.

It goes without saying that we always enjoy spending time with our children, family, and friends. Nevertheless, we are just as happy to return to our WENNE. Because that is our home, where we feel comfortable and look forward to the next reunion with our loved ones.
However, our return flight to Portugal on Thursday was canceled due to a general strike that brought all public transport to a standstill. Fortunately, we found out about this just half an hour before my parents were due to drive us to Memmingen Airport.

The next available flight, and therefore our rebooking to Faro, was possible on Sunday evening.

This meant that our stay at home was extended by a few days.

Personally, we were disappointed that the flight had been canceled, but it didn’t really matter to us because we still had accommodation with my parents and there were no other disadvantages. But for the people who had to fly back for whatever reason, it was certainly very annoying.

We used the time to go for another walk. Unfortunately, the weather has been the same almost the entire time we’ve been here, which has created a rather depressing rather than a contemplative Christmas atmosphere.

On Sunday, it was time to cross our fingers again. Already in the morning, we received information from Ryanair that poor visibility conditions could cause disruptions or cancellations. But this time we were lucky! Although we were delayed by an hour, there were no further incidents and we landed in Faro late in the evening.

We plan to stay at this parking space in Portugal until mid-March.

We are enjoying the sun, the sea, and the beautiful landscape here in the area, as well as spending time with our friends who have already arrived to spend the winter here. We are looking forward to seeing our friends who will arrive here in the new year, and we are looking forward to our Christmas visitors from Germany.

We wish you a wonderful Advent season and a peaceful pre-Christmas period.
