How we proceed
In spring 2023, we started our journey with the motorcycles, two Africa Twins.
With our combined age of almost 100 years ;-), we are no longer quite part of the younger generation.
That’s why we couldn’t estimate how long we would be on two wheels at the start of our adventure. You also can’t know in advance how long you will be able to travel in this way – for whatever reason.
It was clear to both of us from the start that if we didn’t continue to ride our two Africa Twins, we would definitely want to continue our dream as far as possible. A little more relaxed and perhaps easier on four wheels.
There was no perfect plan for this. From the experience we have had on previous motorcycle tours, there are usually “challenges” that disrupt the schedule, which is why the route can no longer be completed according to the original plan.
In fact, we changed our planned route from day two onwards due to the weather, which meant that the entire trip didn’t go as we had originally planned. But that’s not a bad thing when you’re traveling without a time limit and without a real planned destination.
Nevertheless, you need a rough idea of where you want to be in the near future. If only because there are often different rules or regulations for entering different countries. You should therefore have a “healthy plan”.The world is a big place, the individual countries and continents are so different. We will travel slowly in order to experience intense impressions.To escape the daily stress that we experienced in our “old life” before we started. To clear our heads.To feel free. To get out of our supposed comfort zone.Without time pressure, without deadlines.
To simply enjoy life. To be happy.
After just six months of adventure on our motorcycle, we broke off the trip.
We had made it from Germany via France to Spain and even as far as Morocco. Iris found it very difficult right from the start. Enjoying and being happy had not worked for her so far. After two falls, she became more and more insecure. It was more stress than fun for both of us and so the decision to return to Germany and look for a suitable vehicle with four wheels was made earlier than expected.
Since the end of August 2023, we have been on the road with our camper, a 7.5-ton Iveco/Magirus tractor unit with a Clou camper body from Niesmann-Bischoff, and a KTM 390 adventure.
