On day 2 in France, our route takes us along the Rhone and its tributary the Ardeche. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is a truly beautiful region.
France doesn’t make it easy for a classic car like our WENNE with its many environmental zones. We drove generously around Lyon and reached our destination for the day, a parking space in Bourg-en-Bresse, in the late afternoon.
There are no pictures because I got up in the morning with pain in my left shoulder. Sitting during the journey didn’t exactly help and in the evening I had other interests than looking around the town.
Our 3rd day in France ended in Hirzbach, just before the German border, so that we didn’t have so far to go to the MOT. After finding a comfortable parking space and having something to eat, we walked 3 km to the shops.
On the way back, it was starting to get dark and really chilly.
It was also very cold at night. In the morning, even the skylights were frozen and we had ice flowers on the windows. It was the first night that it was so cold for us. But with the diesel parking heater, it was very cozy.
Our first destination for the next day was the TÜV in Germany, where we had already made an appointment.
The transition from France to Germany was a bit of a surprise for us 🙂
There was no sign for Germany anywhere, but we were greeted by Baden-Württemberg. How great is that?
The employees from TÜV Süd in Müllheim were all very friendly and surprised by the good condition of WENNE. We were also allowed to go into the pit and inspect it from below 🤭
An hour and a half later, we had the passed inspection in our hands.
When our friend from near Ulm noticed that we were slowly heading towards Germany, he contacted us and said that if we were heading home, we would be welcome for a beer. We gladly accepted this invitation and visited him and his lovely wife in the evening. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and were served a delicious sausage salad. We were very happy about this wonderful evening. Thank you very much for that 🤗
We found a quiet pitch nearby for the night and invited Alex’s mom and her husband over for lunch the next day. They were really happy to see us again. We arrived in our home town in the evening. Iris’ parents didn’t know that we were arriving today, so they had been traveling all day and had made a nice day of it. Whenever we make a stopover in Germany, we are allowed to stay with them. As we didn’t have the house keys, we walked to the station in the evening to pick them up, as they were traveling by train. In the meantime, we visited friends and were treated to a delicious sausage salad.
We will now stay in Germany for a few weeks to run a few errands.
Together with Alex’s brother, we enjoyed the sun on Friday.
Iris’ parents celebrated her birthday on Saturday. The weather was really nice and it was wonderful to meet a small part of the family on this day.
