We were able to pick up our new upholstery, including the new cover, at the beginning of the week.
We already find it much more comfortable than before.
Unfortunately, we didn’t receive such great news at the beginning of the week. In Portugal, near our winter quarters, large fires have broken out over an area of 43 square kilometers and are spreading ever closer due to the strong winds.
In the middle of the week we were told that the fire was under control, but we cannot yet give the all-clear.
Now 50 square kilometers are already affected. In the meantime, the situation there has calmed down and the fire has been extinguished.
Nevertheless, we are monitoring this closely and are in contact with friends on the ground. There are always fires in Spain too, and we will keep an eye on them there too. Nobody wants to come into contact with such a fire. It is better to change the planned route.
Our planned onward journey on Wednesday ultimately turned into Friday.
So after we had cleaned our WENNE again and stowed everything away safely, we started our journey towards France.
As much as we always enjoy our time at home with our family and children, we always enjoy our time on the road just as much.
Somehow a real dichotomy. I’m always torn between the two.
We spent the first night just before the border in Staufen, between Freiburg and Mühlhausen.
We had all kinds of weather during the trip. From rain to fog to sunshine.
The next day we crossed the Rhine at Neuenburg into the Grand Est region of France.
As we are still not fans of France, we only want to spend the night there twice. That’s why we continued quickly through the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region to Bourg-en-bress in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
We stayed there for one night on a free, official parking space including service. When we went to Germany in the spring, we’d been there before. For one/two nights it’s quite ok there.
When we set off on our motorcycles in March 2023, we had ridden roughly the same route. We kept passing places that reminded us of it. The only difference was that we had stayed in a motel back then and the weather was terribly wet and windy. In contrast to this time, where we had glorious sunshine.
