20.05.-26.05.2024 Figueira-Budens, Algarve/Portugal

Our all-day motorcycle tour began at 9 a.m. on Monday. First we headed along the coast towards Faro to Praia Grande de Pera, where we took a short break and enjoyed the view of the sea. The beach was a kilometer long sandy beach. In contrast to the short stretches of beach between the rocks and cliffs that we have seen here in the Algarve so far, here you could walk for miles along the beach.

We then headed into the mountains of Monchique, to the highest mountain, Fóia. This is also where the transmitter station is located. At 902m, Fóia is the highest mountain in Portugal to the west of Monchique, in the middle of the Sierra de Monchique. Unfortunately, we didn’t have such a great view. In good weather, you can enjoy the fantastic horizon of the Atlantic. You can see from Portimao via Lagos to the most south-westerly point in Europe, the Cabo de são Vincente. The Autódromo International do Algarve can also be seen from above. You can drive right up to the top, and there are also several places to stop for refreshments. If you’re ever in the area, it’s definitely worth a trip. Among other things, our drive took us through eucalyptus forests, stone tracks, uphill, downhill, through water and back onto normal asphalt. All in all, we had a really nice day.

At the moment, we tend to be out and about very early in the morning or towards the evening, as all the holidaymakers have now arrived and it’s pretty busy everywhere. We prefer to keep a low profile and wait until the tourists are almost all back home in the fall.

When we arrived here in the Algarve last autumn, nature had just begun to change from its dry, brown-yellow state to a variety of shades of green, gradually revealing its most beautiful and lush colorful splendor.
Now, at the end of May, many of the fields have already been harvested and the vibrant green is slowly fading. Some plants are still showing their best side, but the drought that is slowly arriving is turning many things back to shades of brown and yellow.

The last few posts probably weren’t all that interesting for you. But soon there will be more variety again, as we will be leaving the caravan park on June 1st and heading for Spain. We had a really great time here. We were able to carry out a lot of conversion and renovation work on our WENNE. Had a lot of fun with our KTM. We went on lots of lovely walks. In the long time we were here, we were able to get to know the wonderful nature, the beautiful coastal region, great towns and villages. Got to know so many different people of all ages. We were told so many different life stories and adventures. Made friends. And lost friends again through their fate. This has taught us a lot about what life in a motorhome can mean, as well as for us personally. We were also able to help some people out of their despair and give tips and advice to others. It was a great feeling.
We had some really good times, but also some bad ones. Happy days but also sad ones. All in all, we think we are on the right path for us personally.
Now we’re looking forward to moving on soon. But we are also really looking forward to coming back to this place in the fall and hopefully seeing all our dear friends and acquaintances again who are also planning to spend the winter here in Figueira.
