19.-20.09.2023 from Gijòn to Navia Asturien/Spanien

Once again, we are taking you with us on the way to the next day’s destination.
It’s amazing how many pilgrims are out and about. Again and again we see them on our way, with their heavy rucksacks, walking sticks and sun protection. Truly amazing and hats off to them for this adventure.
Something I haven’t even mentioned yet. When we were in the town of Gijòn yesterday, we actually met the South African pilgrim who was sitting with the other pilgrims at the bar in Ribadesella, where we also got to meet Peter, the nice, very talkative gentleman.
“You always meet several times in life”.
That was a really great coincidence, or fate. In any case, it was nice to have met him again.

Take a look at this view. So incredibly beautiful.
If it wasn’t so wet and cold in the fall and winter, you could definitely stay here for a long time.

After almost 125 km, we have reached our destination for today.

Next to a school, directly in a parking lot next to a large supermarket and a petrol station. We thought it couldn’t be that great and planned to spend the night there. I was totally thrilled, because in the supermarket arcade there are facilities for washing, drying and even ironing (but we didn’t have anything to iron).
Totally great, super offer for little money.
And the area really isn’t that bad.
Alex finally said, as I wanted to wash the bed linen anyway (and not by hand), that we could stay for two nights.
The beach was also within easy walking distance.
😉 So it was clear: today was laundry day, tomorrow beach day.

So we packed up the bed linen and all the other things that needed washing. And made our way to the washing machines.

After we had finished, there were still a few little things to do. For example, after 3 weeks, Alex wanted to calculate how much fuel we would need for 100 km and how far we would really get with our tank. As the fuel gauge doesn’t work properly, we haven’t yet dared to run the tank quite empty.

We also have to worry about our tires. So far it has held up well and we actually think it will last a few more kilometers. But after researching the situation with garages and such in Portugal, we realized that the problem of getting a suitable tire there seems almost as difficult as it was in France. Perhaps we are quite German in this respect, as we are due for an oil change in the meantime and would like to have the tires changed at the same time. Then just in Spain and before Portugal.
We are already waiting for an answer from a garage that we contacted by e-mail. Unfortunately, to no avail. Now we have to decide whether to write to others or simply go there in person to sort it out. It will probably take some time to get an appointment, so we thought we could clarify this in advance by e-mail.

The next day, we took a look at the beach and the sea. The tide is coming in, the waves are raging and the wind is blowing quite strongly. According to the weather forecast, gusts of up to 55 km/h are still possible today.

The 20-minute walk to the beach is breathtakingly beautiful.
Although much is so green, there are already a few trees shedding their leaves.

Coffee break in this great restaurant right on the beach.

We had a wonderful day today.
