19.01.-25.01.2025 Figueira-Budens, Algarve Portugal

In the night to Monday we have a weather warning due to continuous rain. On Sunday of all days, our heating suddenly failed. Error message 13, which can mean a number of things. The simplest solution was that we had run out of fuel. So Alex filled our last 10 liters from the canisters. But unfortunately there was no change. The heater started, blew out cold air and went out again straight away. Alex was almost certain that this was the only possible cause. The diesel in the canister was a bit old and maybe it was too little, so he got new diesel at the petrol station. and we were lucky, the heating is working perfectly again.

During the rainy days, we took a closer look at Sweden and Norway. Because that’s where we’re heading this year. We now know roughly what our route should look like. But we still have a long way to go before we get up there in the north of Europe. We’ll be heading to Germany via Spain and France, because we need TÜV.

We’re really looking forward to everything that’s in store for us and we’re sure we’ll be able to let you travel with us with great articles, pictures and videos.

With all the rain, you can also relax a little.

When we stay in one place for so long, not everything is always carefully put away. The food in particular just gets stowed away somewhere.
So Iris has reorganized the cupboards and they are now clearer and there is more space in the cupboards again.
Iris was never really happy with the order in our storage space in the upper bunk bed and the small cupboard at the end of the camper. We kept rearranging things, including this week. In fact, it is now more sensibly sorted and organized.
But maybe only until the next rainy spell 😂

Until Thursday, it rained heavily and for long periods of time. There were also heavy gusts of wind in places.
We used the short breaks in the rain to take care of our supplies, take out the garbage and walk around the campsite to talk to the others. We also had to go shopping once, it had cleared up quite a bit and as we always go shopping by motorcycle, we thought we’d take advantage of the rain-free time. Unfortunately, the weather changes so quickly here and of course we didn’t make it home in time. However, the almost 18° are very pleasant.

The rain subsided at the end of the week and we slowly started to get our cabin and WENNE ready for the onward journey.

Iris started to clean everything inside the cabin again so that we can travel in a relaxed manner and everything can be stowed away properly so that nothing flies around during the journey.
In the meantime, Alex has made sure that WENNE is ready for the many kilometers that lie ahead of us over the next few months.
There were also a few bits and pieces, such as wooden panels, aluminum strips, etc. and tools from the conversion work lying around everywhere. Alex has also stowed this away in a way that is suitable for traveling.

There’s now something to do every day in a leisurely but steady manner so that we can set off on our next adventure on the first of February.

On Wednesday we cooked together with our East Frisian friends. We had goulash with napkin dumplings. What a lovely evening with very tasty food.

Our dear friend Kirsten has probably also made good use of the rainy season. Thank you so much for knitting such great sneaker socks for us.

After a lot of sitting around and very little exercise this week, we went for a longer walk at the weekend.

Our first destination was our stretch of beach, Praia da Figueira.

Whenever it rains a lot or for a long time here, the two paths to the beach are impassable due to too much water. Then you have to take a path over the mountain. This is always a bit of an adventure.

Flotsam and jetsam

As the tide was already coming in, we looked carefully to see if we could get over the rocks to the following sections of beach.

We decided against it and took the path above. Part of it is also the official coastal path from Lagos to Sagres.

Once we reached the top, we were rewarded with a fantastic view.

Then it goes down and up again.

The steep, narrow and stony paths are quite strenuous to walk. After the rain, the paths are also quite slippery in places and should not be underestimated.

Back at the top, we are greeted by the next WOW effect. We love looking out over the sea from above. It’s always a wonderful experience.

We follow the path down again before heading back towards the campsite.

Of course there is also a petting session.

A beautiful walk comes to an end.

Saturday evening belongs to our now really good friends. Unlike our East Frisian friends, who we have grown very fond of, we won’t be seeing Mr. W and Mrs. H any time soon. They will stay here in Portugal and we have ideas for the next few years that won’t allow us to spend the winter in Portugal. The other two, Mr. R and Mrs. K, on the other hand, will soon be travelling through Europe and we will certainly meet up again sometime, somewhere.
In any case, we are sure that these two great friendships will last a long time.

“The best friends are not the ones you see every day,

but the ones you always carry in your heart.”
