After a quiet and pleasant night, we will take you with us today on our excursion through the town of Ribadesella.
The former fishing town of Ribadesella is one of the most beautiful vacation resorts on the eastern Costa Verde in Asturias. Attractions include its picturesque location at the mouth of the River Sella, the old town, the beaches and a stalactite cave.
At the beginning of August, Ribadesella is at the center of canoeing.
The people here live between the mountains and the sea. There are still many fishermen to be seen.

We have only been in the province of Asturias for a few days.
But we can already say that we like this region, this province, much better than the Basque Country. We feel at home here, we understand Spanish pronunciation (at least the little bit we’ve picked up in the meantime), we feel welcome and the people here are very warm and helpful.
In the Basque Country it was exactly the opposite. Basque pronunciation is very different from the typical Spanish language. People don’t make any effort to speak clearly either. You get the feeling that they avoid you instead of approaching you.
It starts with the good morning greeting, in the bars or restaurants there is no hello or goodbye, somehow they ignore you. Even the interaction between the locals doesn’t feel as warm as here in Asturias.
Catalonia is also somehow a completely different Spain. This is probably because the Catalans are a very proud and stubborn people and don’t like to be seen as Spanish. They are fighting for their independence. But these people are very nice, warm and helpful. They make it possible to learn the Catalan language, they support you, help you and tell you stories. If you accept that they want to be seen as Catalans and not as Spaniards, you can really feel at home there. It’s a great province.
Just like here in Germany, the regions and federal states are so different from each other.
AND THAT’S A GOOD THING!!! Otherwise it would be very boring.
