On 13.09. we looked for a pitch for one night in Zalla in the Basque Country. Free of charge with fresh water and waste disposal stations. Directly on a road on the edge of the town.
Despite the sign banning trucks at the entrance to this road, which was really manageable and only a few meters long, we decided to stay here. We really saw no reason not to spend the night there. The 4 pitches were lined up one behind the other at the side of the road. We were the only ones, so why not? Maybe the truck driving ban only applies to professional drivers.
We bought these wedges in Bilbao in the morning. Good thing we had them now. It’s much easier this way and you don’t get quite so wet when it rains.
As the day progressed, it turned out that the footpath right next to us was a much-used path. Lots of people were jogging, pupils were walking to and from school, some were walking their dogs, others were carrying shopping bags.
We walked to the town center, which was 5 minutes away. Too bad, the market was just being dismantled.
If the parking space is free and offers everything, you can also support the bars and restaurants in the city.
As we knew that there was neither fresh water nor a disposal station at the next pitch, we decided to fill up with at least enough fresh water to last us one or two days.
When Alex went to fetch his 1/2 inch adapter for the water connection, he realized with horror that we must have forgotten to take it with us somewhere.
He took the whole camper apart, but in vain. The adapter was gone.
We can fill up with water without it, using the watering can. Still a bit annoying.
On top of that, we saw a leak in our waste water tank. The seal on the waste water tap was probably not tight.
Alex had a look at it straight away. In fact, the seal was so bad that we had to be glad we hadn’t lost it at some point.
We decided to leave it out during the trip. The tank was empty anyway and we, or rather Alex b;-), would have enough time to seal it again at the next parking space. It is important to us that it is tight. It’s really not possible to constantly lose all your waste water somewhere in the countryside or in the city or anywhere else.
After spending the night, we drove on to the Park de la Naturaleza in the Cantabria region. The drive was very relaxed and the landscape was beautiful.
We arrive at our pitch today. There is neither fresh water nor a waste disposal station here. But by the end of this article, you will surely understand why we wanted to stop here.
As soon as we arrived, Alex took care of the waste water tap and sealed it.
Afterwards we had a look at the reason for our visit here. These animals are unbelievably beautiful. You can look at them from the outside, which was enough for us. Or you can take the gondola across the entire park. You can also book small buses to take you through the park. It is very large, so the elephants can also take a longer walk if they feel like it.
We then took a short walk through the village.
Later, we enjoyed the lake. A beautiful place here in the national park.
