11.03.-17.03.2024 Figueira-Budens, Algarve/Portugal

This week, Iris was with her parents at the Cap de Sao Vincente, at the most south-western tip of the world.

We also visited the sea fortress Fortaleza de Sagres.

The fortress is located on the 1,000 meter long and 300 meter wide headland
Ponta de Sagres. It is a national monument of great importance to the Portuguese.

Situated on high cliffs, surrounded by the sea and a high wall facing the land, the site is perfectly secured. Nevertheless, only a tower and the remains of a wall still stand. The fortress was destroyed in a pirate attack in 1587. The rest was destroyed by the earthquake in 1755.

In 1928, a stone circle was discovered on the grounds of the fortress, the significance of which is still unclear today. A circle, 42 fields with a diameter of 43 meters.
There is some speculation as to whether it could be a sundial or a tornado.

This unusual labyrinth is called
A Voz do Mar, which means the voice of the sea. You walk round and round until you come to a place at the very bottom, which is secured with a grate. Down there you can see a crevice and hear the sound of the sea and the force of the waves. This place is secured with a grate. Very impressive and scary at the same time.

The power of the sea is unbelievable.

We had a lovely, interesting day at the fortress and lighthouse at the Cap de Sao Vincente.
With wonderful views of the rocky coast, the beaches, the Atlantic and the horizon.

We have a good time and enjoy our short time together.

For a long time, we thought about what kind of tableware we should or wanted to buy.
When we were on the road with the motorcycles, we bought two folding plates. They are the size of a cake plate and can also be used as soup plates when unfolded. The ideal solution when you need to save space.
After almost 10 months of daily use, one of the two soup plates is no longer leak-proof. As these are still our only two plates, we thought about whether we should get something made of plastic, melamine or enamel or whether we should go back to normal crockery like we used to have at home.
Then we saw this pottery near our current location. With a tonne of extra load that we are still allowed to have, we thought we’d pay them a visit.

And we found what we were looking for.
The products in this pottery are handmade and very reasonably priced. And the sales clerk is also very friendly.

From time to time we also continue to work on converting the bunk bed. And once again we have a hard-working helper.
